Wakanohana Kanji II is a retired Japanese sumo wrestler, born on May 3, 1971, in Futakotamagawa, Tokyo, Japan. He made his professional debut in March 1988 and became the youngest wrestler to win a championship at the age of 20 years and 10 months in March 1992.

Wakanohana Kanji II was known for his technical prowess and agility. He was also renowned for his tenacity and fierce competitive spirit. The Japanese government recognized him for his contributions to the sport, awarding him the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star in 1999.

He retired from sumo wrestling in January 2000, at the age of 28, due to a chronic knee injury. After retirement, he became a sumo elder and was given the name Kyokushuzan, which means "Giant Emperor of the Sea."

Wakanohana Kanji II has two younger brothers, both of whom are also retired sumo wrestlers, Wakanohana Masaru and Takanohana Koji. He is currently a board member of the Japan Sumo Association and runs a sumo-themed restaurant in Tokyo. He is widely considered as one of the greatest sumo wrestlers of all time.
